Moore and Smalley is one of Lancashire's leading independent firms of chartered accountants, providing accounting and business advisory services to corporate and private clients. The firm has 130 staff and is recognised as one of the top 60 accountancy firms in the UK
The firm wanted to develop a ‘coaching culture’ throughout the business. HR Partner, Adrienne Collinge wanted to work with a provider with a demonstrable track record in working with professional practices. She enlisted the help of PINNA.
PINNA designed and delivered a programme of one-to-one coaching sessions for a small group of partners. These sessions allowed partners to experience coaching first hand and identify needs for the partnership group as a whole.
The partners have learnt how to hold ‘coaching conversations’ with members of staff that are solutions focused rather than problem centric. They have experienced a number of useful tools and techniques which they are using to good effect in appraisals, one-to-one discussions and team meetings. We are starting to see different outcomes and staff are noticing that something is different!
In one case, a partner used a PINNA tool for a potentially difficult discussion with a client about a fee dispute. The financial result for the firm was materially different than would have been the case without a strategy for dealing with the issue and the client also went away happy with the outcome.
I have been impressed by the people at PINNA and can see the possibilities for the firm as a whole. I’m planning a roll-out across the partner and senior manager group with further phases to follow
